Tight-knit

A few months ago I asked a neighbor to teach me to knit. Several washcloths later, I felt ready to try a new pattern. (For those who are not knit-savvy, there are only two stitches in knitting, but myriad variations and patterns.)

I chose another washcloth pattern because washcloths bring a quick sense of accomplishment. I'm feeling empowered now and might try a scarf next.

Then the other night I read an article about a knitter who is using her skill to beautify cities. I love the blend of quirkiness with this old art.

A finished project!?!

Here is the inspiration for the dress I made for Jamie Beth (found in a beautiful--read: expensive--shop in Alexandria, VA)...

Here is the result... I was going for "vintage", but may have ended up a little bit "pioneer". The point is that I actually finished a project that is wearable. Jamie Beth and I like it.

I Like Blocks

I do not consider myself crafty, but I am definitely making these blocks. I'm pretty certain that Nate needs them for Christmas. I heard of these from Martha Stewart, where there are instructions for those lacking vision and innovation (me); then I found them at their original Etsy store, hiccupdecor. Anyone who wants to try this with me, please come on over--I'm much more likely to tackle a project if I have a partner.
